Zynerba’s Top-Line Data Misses The Mark

Zynerba announced that its Phase 2 clinical trial did not demonstrate statistically significant results during the treatment period.

When compared to the baseline, patients on the low dose of ZYN002 recorded an 18.4% median reduction in focal seizures, while patients on the high dose recorded an 14.0% median reduction and patients on placebo recorded an 8.7% median reduction.

Zynerba Chairman and CEO Armando Anido said, “We are very disappointed that the STAR 1 trial did not meet its primary endpoint in this patient population. We are continuing to evaluate this study and the ongoing STAR 2 open label study to determine next steps with ZYN002 in adult epilepsy patients with focal seizures. I’d like to thank the patients, coordinators and investigators, as well as the development team at Zynerba, for their time and energies in conducting this very important trial.”

Although the top-line data was less-than-impressive, CEO Anido believes that the results show that ZYN002 has a favorable safety and tolerability profile, which is encouraging as the firm looks to develop ZYN002 as a treatment for a wide range of indications.

2018: The Year of Epidiolex

GW is currently conducting its Epidiolex orphan epilepsy program in Dravet syndrome, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) and Infantile Spasms (IS).

More than 1,500 patients have been exposed to Epidiolex treatment and 97% of the patients that complete Phase 3 trials have entered a long-term extension.

GW reported that it is on track to be ready for an FDA GMP inspection, which is expected to take place in early 2018. The company has also been focused on scaling up in Epidiolex manufacturing capabilities ahead of an expected commercial launch.

A major development reported by GW pertains to the 14 distinct patent families that are being prosecuted for the use of CBD in the treatment of epilepsy. The company expects decisions for several patents towards the end of 2017 and in the first half of 2018. Read original article HERE.

The Truth Behind Illegal Cannabis Farming Pollution

Media hysteria over illegal cannabis farm pollution in west coast states has exploded onto the scene following a Reuters article that details the environmental devastation left in the wake of black market pot farmers. Unfortunately, the surrounding conversation has not been followed to the logical and moral conclusions, but rather become a negative talking point towards legal marijuana.

The problem is absolutely worthy of all the media attention. The report, published by Mourad Gabriel, an ecologist with the Integral Ecology Research Center in northwest California, says the problem is much worse than researchers and officials previously thought.

The report estimates illegal marijuana sites on federal land in California contain 731,000 pounds of solid fertilizer, 491,000 ounces of concentrated liquid fertilizer and 200,000 ounces of toxic pesticides. The problem is actually so severe that contact with these toxic materials during raids of illegal marijuana farms has sent at least five officers to the hospital for skin rashes and trouble breathing, according to Reuters. Canadian Leaders Join Forces To Cultivate The Next Wave Of Cannabis Start Ups

Leaders from across Canada’s cannabis industry are joining forces to participate in Leaf Forward, Canada’s first cannabis industry business accelerator program.

Leaf Forward provides early stage cannabis focused businesses with mentorship, networking, and learning opportunities from successful leaders who have taken ideas and turned them into reality. Leaf Forward’s first founders class will spend a full day with entrepreneurs, industry experts, and senior managers who advise on everything from law and finance to marketing and sales, preparing founders to pitch investors, raise money and take their business to the next level.

“As the cannabis industry matures, innovative ancillary products and services will be needed to add value across the supply chain, touching everything from increasing a Licensed Producer’s yield, to improving ease of use for patients,” said John Prentice, Founder and CEO of Ample Organics, Canada’s leading seed to sale software provider and Leaf Forward Mentor, “I’m looking forward to see what’s in store as our industry moves out of its infancy.”

Industry leaders agree, the ancillary cannabis industry needs acceleration ahead of legalization. Mike Lickver, Cannabis Wheaton’s Executive Vice President of Strategy and Leaf

Forward Mentor said “In the run up to legal adult recreational use Canada has some catching up to do with legal U.S. jurisdictions in terms of ancillary and value added products and services. Leaf Forward is a great opportunity to spur this sector, providing founders the opportunity to better understand core industry needs and non-cannabis focused businesses the knowledge to make a successful pivot.” Read the original article HERE.

Future Farm Technologies Debuts State Of The Art Extraction Facility

The market for cannabis concentrates is booming because they are used to make edibles, topical ointments, capsules and other packaged products that require high quality oils from professional extraction methods.

This development is a milestone for Future Farm. In March, its subsidiary, FFM Consulting Services ,entered into a management agreement with a California firm that secured a sublease to grow cannabis in a 17,000-square foot facility. The cannabis cultivated in that facility is sent to the extraction facility where it is processed into cannabis concentrates.

The cultivation facility will use Future Farm’s CEA systems, including its patented vertical farming technology and grow lights. The vertical stacking technology will increase the amount of flowering room space. Read orginal article HERE.
