Congratulations on the recent acquisition. This is a significant development and awesome to see. Over the last few years, you have turned New West Summit into something special for both exhibitors and attendees. Can you tell us how NWS is differentiated from other events?
I think of us as more a tech event that happens to be about cannabis. We focus on the future of cannabis from a lens of technology and science. I think we offer a more educated level of curriculum and speaker content. We don’t work with everyone and want to ensure we pick the top companies that will be around in 5 years instead of packing the event with anyone who has money at the moment.
The relationship with CNS and Aura Ventures is very exciting. Can you tell us a little about how they will add to already very strong program later this year, and in 2019?
The team at AURA will strengthen our ability to scale and grow the event, both in Nor Cal and also nationally and globally. We definitely become a bigger, stronger and more powerful team with this new partnership.
The content discussed at the show is very actionable and features industry leaders. Who is highlighting the show in San Fran this year and what are some of the events attendees should be aware of.
It is going to be great to have Berner back to speak this year. I’m also excited this year to have George Zimmer of Men’s Warehouse as a keynote, he has a very interesting story. Also Ted Chung, Snoop Doog’s Business Partner will be a great addition. Also, quite excited for Krishna from Vice to join us as well.
Jim, you have been involved in several exciting cannabis initiatives. Can you tell our readers a little about these projects and your involvement in the industry?
I also run some other events that are more advocacy based. The 420 Games is an athleteic series of event that happen around the country to help change the perception of cannabis and the people who use it. www.420Games.org.
I also speak a lot around the country with pro athletes to teach people about the possibilities of replacing opiates with cannabis for pain management.
The global cannabis movement is in full effect. Where do you see the cannabis industry going from and evolving from here?
To the moon! To be bigger than booze. It will hopefully be nationally legal in the next 5 years and become engrained into our culture. I see a train that is not stopping till it’s parked at the National Legalization Station.
There have been some rumblings about a New East Summit. Can you tell us more about this as well as other initiative you are focused on?
We are not ready to officially announce this but we are working on an event in Boston in 2019 to bring the New West brand and event to East Coast. More to come soon and be announced in Oct!
